Authority Black Book: Download the #1 Guide to Social Marketing for Free Traffic and Links! Rss feed | Making Money Online World
7 Free Lessons from the Teachers of The Secret

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is essentially a tool which enables internet users to ‘subscribe’ to content they’re interested in. It helps people keep track of the information they value without having to go online and search for it each and every time they sit down to surf. For example, blogs, websites, and forums can all be subscribed to. Anytime new content is posted, it is either emailed it is either emailed to you or it shows up on a ‘reader.’ A reader is essentially an aggregate for all information a person subscribes to.

On the marketing and business side of the coin, an RSS feed (the tool used to send info to subscribers) benefits business owners because it ensures messages reach the intended audience. Content and promotions land smack dab in their mailbox or reader for easy access.

RSS feeds offer a variety of options. Business owners can:

1. Send all full length blog posts to readers

2.Send excerpts of blog posts with links back to your site.

3.Send weekly blog post highlights
– with links back to your site so readers can read entire posts at your site.

4. Send top industry stories of the day.

5.Send reviews of relevant products

6. Send promotional messages, contests, coupons etc…

7. Send posted articles, in their entirety, to subscribers.

8. Send excerpts of articles to subscribers.

Some of these options lend themselves quite easily to bringing readers, and prospects, back to your site. For example, sending a full length article to subscribers is great for them – they don’t have to click on anything. The content is all there right in front of them – no work. However, delivering an excerpt or even a captivating headline encourages people to click on the link which of course brings them right back to your company website.

The key concept to bringing readers back to your site – present a benefit driven excerpt and/or an attention grabbing headline. Skipping this step results in fewer click throughs to your site and who wants that? It’s certainly not the goal – however sending a full post or article doesn’t encourage any click throughs.

Another way to bring readers back to your website and still send them a complete article, is to include an advertisement, promotion, or even a simple embedded link right in the feed. That way, even article scanners, receive the opportunity to click through and take advantage of promotions and interested readers will click through on text links – landing right on your business website or sales page.

RSS offers myriad opportunities for both readers and business owners. Be creative, pay attention to how your readers prefer to interact online (track click through rates and length of time on pages) and provide the experience they desire. It’ll keep them coming back for more. The end result, more traffic and more profits.

RSS, , is an excellent way to add content to your website. More relevant content on your website means a higher search engine ranking and a benefit to your visitors. Here’s how to add RSS to your website or blog.

Step 1 Find a reader to subscribe to. There are many available online. A quick Google Search will provide you with many to choose from. Look for ones that offer PHP scripts rather than JavaScript. JavaScript isn’t read by search engine spiders and the content will not help your search engine ranking.

Step 2 Register. Generally all you need to provide is an email address and your website URL. A confirmation will be sent to your email along with a password and logon.

Step 3 Confirm via email and logon with your assigned password and logon ID.

Step 4 Customize your content. Choose the topics you want to cover. For example Google News, Yahoo Finance, or Reuters Health. You can choose several. Make certain to choose topics that are relevant to your website subject. You wouldn’t want to choose finance if your site offers health information.

Step 5 Choose keywords. You can customize your feeds by choosing specific keywords. For example, if you have a website dedicated to fitness you can add the keyword “fitness” to your code.

Step 6 Choose appearance. You can customize the shape and size of your content block. Whether there are pictures included, the author, the title of the article and so on. This is usually a check the box type menu.

Step 7 Choose formatting. Here you can choose the font you want, size of font, and the general formatting of your feed.

Step 8 Generate the code and follow the directions to get it onto your website. Generally the code is given to you in PHP or JavaScript. PHP is recommended because JavaScript is not read by search engine spiders. If you’re using RSS to add content to your site, you’ll want to use the PHP script offered. PHP isn’t automatically added to HTML so if you have an HTML based site, you’ll need to add a bit of code to it to have it recognize the PHP. No worries, the RSS feed you use will offer you instructions on how to do that.

RSS is a technology that is fairly easy to use and it can add significant content and value to your website. All it takes is a few simple steps and you’re done. with the click of a button.

How to Subscribe to RSS Feeds

(subscribing and Creating Rss Feeds)

For those of you who have yet to take advantage of this tool and what this can do for you
in order to subscribe to an RSS feed, you first have to understand what an RSS feed is and how it works. RSS, which stands for really simple syndication, is a way of keeping on top of all the updates to your favorite websites, blogs, etc. Through feeds you can easily subscribe to and be notified of any updates that are made to those sites.

In easier terms, a feed reader allows you to add all of your favorite , websites, podcast feeds and see all the content in one place without having to browse from page to page to find out if someone has added any fresh new content to their site or blog.

There are two things you need in order to do this.

1. Feed Reader Software
2. Links to your favorite site's feeds.

First, the Feed Reader. This is a piece of software that allows you to input all your favorite RSS feeds into it. This is where you go to see all your updated feeds in one place. Some examples of feed readers include NewsGator, Firefox, Safari, , Sweetie Reader, My Yahoo!, Bloglines, and more. There are also readers such as the popular Apple iTunes.

Once you have your feed reader software installed, you will then need to tell the reader which feeds you want to subscribe to. You do this by visiting the site you want to add and clicking on their to this Site's (or something similar) button. The universal orange button with white curves in the left bottom corner is the most common way to subscribe to a site's feed, but there are also other options so be sure you follow the site's instructions, you can see an example of a couple of feeds on this site in various locations.

From there you will need to get the link or URL to the site's feed and input that into your feed reader. Once you've added the link to your reader, you will be able to open your feed reader and anytime new text, audio, or video content has been published you'll be able to see it without having to open your browser and jump from one bookmark to the next only to find your favorite blogs haven't been updated or the newest episode of your favorite podcast has yet to be published.

Now for those of you who are looking to create your own feeds you could try Feedburner.

Feedburner is a free online RSS feed creation tool that allows you to create a RSS feed of your own for your blog, podcast, video cast or other website. In just a few quick and easy steps you can have your feed created and functional on your website. Here's step-by-step instructions on how to create your own RSS feed with FeedBurner.

4. Click Next.
5. You may be directed to a page that tells you there is more than one feed at this address, if that's the case, you will need to choose the option that fits best. For our purposes here, we are creating an RSS feed so choose the RSS option.
6. Click Next.
7. The next step will verify the blog address and you'll be able to name your feed and customize your feed address.
8. If you don't have an account at FeedBurner, you will need to create one. If you do have an account, simply sign into your account.
